Start your story with a time word: yesterday, last night, last weekend. Then use a verb in the Past Simple.

time word + subject + past verb

• Yesterday, I went to the market.
• Last night, we saw a good film.
• Last weekend, my family went to the mountains.

Past forms of common verbs

Many common verbs have a special past form. You need to learn these forms one by one.

• We took a lot of photos.
• She bought a new bag.
• They ate pizza in the evening.

Regular verbs take -ed: walk → walked, stay → stayed, visit → visited.
